Don't Think Twice, It's All Right: To John Mayer Fans:
The truth shall set him free: (and to those who know me, this is my mitzvah, my taking the high road.)
The kind of misinterpretation below is going to hit the blogosphere instead of the fact that Mayer graciously allowed Bruce to take the closing spot because of his respect for Bruce as an artist. (I know this from the Bruce camp (via my uncle, FOB)
If you spread it around, maybe it can counter the bullshit. This is just fucking mean.Feel free to reblog!
(Amy, thanks for your dedication to all things Mayer in finding this info).
From The Daily:
JAZZ FEST SHOWS MAYER WHO’S BOSS
John Mayer’s loss is Bruce Springsteen’s gain. Mayer was just bumped from the coveted closing slot at the New Orleans Jazz Fest on April 29 and replaced with The Boss. And sources say Mayer isn’t happy about it. The “Your Body is a Wonderland” hitmaker used to overshare on Twitter, but he maintained his silence about the snub yesterday. Also playing are Tom Petty, Eddie Vedder, the Foo Fighters and the Eagles. But Bruce will close the fest. “Anything else would be a disaster,” said one source. In 1974, Anne Murray was “Broooced!” off the stage in Central Park when she followed Springsteen.
Addendum:
This is the first iteration, from Atlantic Wire:
“This is the kind of news we like to start our day with: John Mayer has been “bumped” from the closing performance slot at April’s New Orleans Jazz Fest in favor of Bruce Springsteen. According to a source, organizers made the decision after realizing that letting John Mayer be the closing act instead of Bruce Springsteen “would have been a disaster” on all counts”. [The Daily]
And I am sure the hits will just keep on coming!
Addendum 2:
Several people have said that the fans will ignore it. I am not thinking about the fans, I am thinking about the media. JM is very sensitive to all that, as he has said.
…
Start the pretty internet hate machine and let the games begin.
As I’ve said before… I’m not a Springsteen fan, if he’s closing, big whoop, there’s plenty of other artists I’d rather see there.
